Course Overview

This course is taught in Fall semesters of odd years and covers plant growth regulating compounds: synthesis, metabolism, and effects on plant growth and development.

Prerequisites: Plant Physiology and Organic Chemistry

Expected Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1) Understand the phytohormones, their synthesis, metabolism, and effects on plant growth and development.
2) Be able to diagnose plant growth developmental issues related to the phytohormones and application of plant growth regulators.
3) Be able to recommend plant growth regulation compounds to elicit specific growth responses.
4) Be able to read and interpret the scientific literature related to plant growth substances and plant growth regulators.
5) Be able to collect information from the scientific literature on a specific plant growth practice and relay it in written form for use by laymen.
6) Be able to construct a review of current scientific literature on a specific research topic.

The campus coordinator for Mississippi State University is Richard Harkess (richard.harkess@msstate.edu) and the course management system is Canvas.
