Greenhouse Management Lab Course Information Sheet
Course Overview
This laboratory is taught every fall semester, and is designed to supplement students’ understanding of principles learned in Greenhouse Management Lecture. Students will conduct experiments that demonstrate principles learned in the lecture and allow students to develop specific skill sets such as testing electrical conductivity and pH. Students will also participate in a series of Virtual Field Trips that are designed to allow students to “visit” greenhouse operations around North America and see the principles that they learn in lecture being used in real-world situations. Co-requisite: Greenhouse Management
Expected Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students should: 1) Be able to conduct an SME, 2:1 or pour-through and determine the E.C. and pH of a substrate. 2) Understand how to design root substrate to obtain the desired physical and chemical properties. 3) Understand how to mix and apply plant growth regulators. 4) Understand how to design, mix and apply fertilizer solutions. 5) Understand how to use E.C. to test fertilizer solutions and fertilizer injectors.
The campus coordinator for the University of Arkansas is Madison Fielding (mf090@uark.edu) and the course management system is BlackBoard.
