International Horticulture Course Information Sheet
Course Overview
This course is offered every Fall semester by LSU.
Considerable globalization of agriculture has occurred over the past several decades, especially in the area of horticultural crops. This course will provide a base of knowledge of the international horticulture industry focusing on principles and practices of development and trade of horticultural crops. The class will review and evaluate topics including methods of production, postharvest practices, export, marketing, and trade issues in a global horticultural context. Individual country analyses of specific fruits, vegetables, and ornamental crops will be studied and applied to international markets.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1) Identify specific vegetable, fruit, and ornamental crops and their significant country of trade.
2) Explain production and postharvest practices for specific crops.
3) Discuss methods of export and marketing for specific crops.
4) Discuss global trade issues and economic importance of international trade of specific crops.
